The past couple of months have been busy ones for me, and one exciting reason for that was my second annual display at the Amusement Preservation Museum’s Open House. Both the museum’s collection and my own have grown exponentially in recent years, and as a result, my display alone had a footprint of over 300 square feet (three times the space I used at my main event two years ago)! This year’s turnout for the Open House also grew, with Troy Parsh (the museum’s founder) estimating that we matched last year’s attendance in just the first day of this event!

My display also included a small section dedicated to artifacts from other nostalgic Cleveland-area places besides amusement parks. Overall, I featured many new acquisitions in this display, including:

Marquee lettering from the Over The Falls ride at Euclid Beach Park
A brake lever from the Thriller Roller Coaster platform at Euclid Beach Park (displayed alongside the original operator’s phone!)
The large octopus painting from Euclid Beach Park’s Laff In The Dark ride
A window from the Euclid Beach Park Dance Pavilion
Various signs from Geauga Lake, Chippewa Lake, and Euclid Beach
An animatronic penguin from the Higbee’s department store Christmas displays in downtown Cleveland

This year’s Open House also featured the debut display from Coasters Galore! on Saturday. I unfortunately did not get a chance to look closely at their display due to my own area requiring my attention, but I hope to see them at future events!

As I mentioned above, this year’s turnout was fantastic, and one major contributing factor was that the National Amusement Park Historical Association (NAPHA) featured the Open House as an informal meetup for their members on Sunday! In addition, we once again received visitors from the Chippewa Lake Historical Society.
