I recently acquired a very special, one-of-a-kind item for my collection: the ride operator’s phone from the Thriller roller coaster at Euclid Beach Park!
It still has its original receiver piece, along with labels for the other four rides & attractions that the operator could contact with the push of the corresponding button. The labels are not original to the phone, but they were hand-written by Art Steele, who was the final operator of the coaster. Mr. Steele personally preserved this artifact for many years after the park’s closure, and I am honored to now have it in my care. Additionally, after picking up this treasure from a member of Mr. Steele’s family, I stopped at Euclid Beach Park for a photo of myself with the phone at the approximate location where the ride platform once stood!
