“Why I Keep The Essence Of Euclid Beach Park Alive” (Poem)

I wrote this poem around 2011 to honor the legacy of Euclid Beach Park and everyone who was a part of its history. It also doubles as an expression of my commitment to keeping that legacy alive for current and future generations.

Remnants Remain
And the essence lingers
Of a time
A place
A memory
Which once thrived here

A family built a park
A culture built a legend
People built memories
Only memories are left behind

Generations came
Popcorn and taffy enticed them
Coasters and the Carrousel rewarded them
Reminiscences and fragments remind them
But generations will leave us
And their memories behind

It is up to me
To the youth

If we do not preserve the memories
If we do not keep the essence of the remnants alive
Soon only the sycamores will remember
"Soon only the sycamores will remember..." One of the old sycamore trees still standing at Euclid Beach as of February 10, 2025
